An important part of our mission to protect the artistic legacy of Amedeo Modigliani, our catalogue raisonné initiative is unique in the field of Modigliani scholarship: Our project is led by a committee of recognized experts, who will apply a protocol based on verifiable provenance, connoisseurship, and scientific analysis. The committee-based approach follows internationally accepted standards and guidelines, such as those developed by the College Art Association (CAA) and the Catalogue Raisonné Scholars Association (CRSA).
The Modigliani Project's Catalogue Raisonné of Paintings will be published online at first, to make it instantly accessible and allow for frequent updating. The project will take a phased approach, first focusing on identifying hitherto unacknowledged works.
The first catalogue raisonné committee meeting took place in October 2019 in New York, and the first online publication of newly-accepted works has been released. The next meeting of the committee is scheduled to take place in September 2020 in New York.
Owners of paintings believed to be by the hand of Amedeo Modigliani can have their paintings considered for inclusion in our catalogue raisonné, following a two-step process:
1. Download the Submission Form below. After completion, scan the Form and e-mail it, with any supporting documentation, to: email@example.com.
Upon receipt of your completed Form and supporting documentation, we will determine if your submission is ready to be reviewed and examined by our committee. Submissions selected for our committee meetings will be limited to those works that are accompanied by verifiable provenance information and a scientific analysis report, including pigment analysis, X-ray and infrared imaging.
Verifiable provenance signifies existing, historical reference(s) to the work, supporting attribution to Modigliani; i.e., reproduction of the work in an exhibition or auction catalogue, art gallery inventory, or other publication, that we can independently verify.
2. If your work is selected for review, we will send you instructions on how to pay a nonrefundable submission fee, and where and when to send your work for physical inspection by the committee.
